It depends on the person, it varies! Some people can learn after 3-4 lessons, the average would be after maybe 10-12 lessons saying that I say 20, 36 or 40 lessons be about right. It all depends on your lessons with your professional instructor and how much practice you put in, in between. It depends how quick you learn to be honest really, things might click straight away or maybe not. Everyone is different, learn at your own pace don’t rush it take your time, it will come naturally and comes second nature after a while.

If your learner permit was issued on or after April 4th 2011, you must do the 12 compulsory EDT lesson programme with an ADI instructor prior to sitting you driving test.

EDT is a course of 12 one-hour lessons. These lessons are designed to cover certain critical driving skills and improve your practical driving skills. As you complete each lesson, your Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) will record your progress in a specially issued logbook. (see Resources above) You may also have a Sponsor, an experienced driver (many learner drivers choose a family member) who will supervise your driving practice outside of lessons, and will also track your progress in your logbook.

The new Essential Driver Training programme will come into effect today. (4/April/2011) It requires drivers to take compulsory driving lessons for category B vehicles such as cars and light vans. EDT is one of a range of measures announced by the Road Safety Authority last September, as part of a new Graduated Driver Licensing system.

Did you know that if you pass your theory test from April 4th 2011, you MUST complete a minimum of 12 driving lessons before you do your practical driving test? Your driving instructor MUST be a fully registered RSA-ADI instructor who has to sign off and stamp your log of lessons before your test can be conducted.
